Understand the topic
AI can support tasks such as analysing images or organising information. Performance depends on the task, data and setting; success in a study does not guarantee safe use in another population. Outputs may be inaccurate, biased or difficult to explain, and automation can change how people check decisions.
How to discuss it in Med interview
Choose a concrete application rather than discussing AI as one technology. Compare it with current practice and ask about validation, patient outcomes, data protection and performance across groups. Explain who remains responsible, how staff can challenge an output and how problems will be monitored after deployment.
Put it into words
An imaging tool could help identify cases needing attention sooner. Before introducing it, I would want evidence in the local population, a clear process for human review and a way to detect missed cases or unequal performance.
Common pitfalls
Assuming a high accuracy percentage proves clinical benefit or that a clinician can transfer responsibility to software.
