Understand the topic
Start by identifying the population, units, axes, time period and source. A difference between groups or a trend over time does not by itself establish a cause. Small samples, missing data and changed definitions can alter interpretation.
How to discuss it in Med interview
State the main pattern, support it with a relevant number and identify an exception or uncertainty. Distinguish absolute from relative changes and check the denominator. Suggest what further information would help before making a recommendation. Use plain language so that someone can follow without seeing the chart.
Put it into words
A fall from 20 missed appointments per 100 to 15 per 100 is a reduction of 5 percentage points, or 25% relative to the starting rate. It does not prove the reminder system caused the change; I would ask about other changes and a comparison group.
Common pitfalls
Confusing percentages with percentage points, ignoring a truncated axis or giving more precision than the data justify.
