Understand the topic

Self-awareness involves recognising both what helps you and what you need to develop. Resilience includes adapting, resting and seeking support. It does not require ignoring difficulties or claiming that you never feel stressed.

How to discuss it in Med interview

Name a relevant strength or development area and support it with a specific example. Describe your action, the outcome and what you would change. For a weakness, choose a real behaviour you are working on and explain evidence of progress. When discussing stress, include early warning signs, manageable priorities, supportive people and appropriate help.

Put it into words

I used to agree to too many tasks and then rush them. After missing a deadline, I started checking my commitments before accepting new work and flagging problems earlier. In the next group project, this helped us redistribute tasks in time.

Common pitfalls

Disguising perfectionism as every weakness, blaming others, or suggesting that asking for support shows you are unsuitable for medicine.
