Understand the topic

Professionalism includes how you behave with patients, peers and the public, including online. Confidentiality, honesty about your role and recognising limits matter before you qualify. Fairness means considering a person's actual needs and appropriate adjustments instead of making assumptions about disability or background.

How to discuss it in Med interview

Identify the specific behaviour and its effect on safety, trust or dignity. Clarify uncertainty, address the issue respectfully and seek supervision where needed. For social media, consider whether anyone could be identified even without a name. For boundaries, keep the relationship focused on the person's care and use approved communication routes.

Put it into words

If a friend posts a placement story that could identify a patient, I would explain the concern, ask them to remove it and seek guidance through the placement's process. I would not repost it to criticise them.

Common pitfalls

Treating professionalism as appearance alone, ignoring discriminatory remarks, or assuming good intentions make a confidentiality breach harmless.
