Understand the topic

Climate change affects health through hazards such as extreme heat and flooding, and through effects on food, water, infections and livelihoods. Exposure and the ability to adapt are unequal. Health services also need to remain functional during extreme events.

How to discuss it in Med interview

Give a concrete health pathway, identify who may be most affected and discuss prevention or adaptation. Consider resilient buildings, heat plans, transport and procurement, with patient safety central. Distinguish reducing emissions from adapting to risks already present, and consider health benefits such as cleaner air.

Put it into words

A heat plan might consider people living alone, unsuitable housing and reliable ways to reach support. Hospitals also need infrastructure and staffing plans that keep essential services safe during extreme weather.

Common pitfalls

Discussing only recycling, ignoring adaptation or suggesting environmental goals justify unsafe patient care.
